Sensor or Tire? Is Your TPMS Warning Light On?

Sensor or Tire? Is Your TPMS Warning Light On?

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning light only comes on when you have a tire problem, but it doesn't always mean you have low tire pressure.

Sometimes the tire pressure sensors can be faulty --

How do you tell if its a sensor or a tire?

  • -- If the TPMS warning light comes on and stays on solid after you start the vehicle, you've got one or more tires that are low on air pressure -- Could be anything, leaking tires come in all ways and it's always best to get them checked out asap before they develop into a real problem that could leave you stranded. The most common type of tire repair is a nail or screw and the tire needs to be repaired or replaced.

  • If the TPMS light comes on and flashes for about a minute after you start the car, then stays on solid - You've probably got a bad TPMS sensor and you may have low air pressure too (you'll never know because the system isn't working)

Hope this helps you next time you see the TPMS warning light on your dash.

Remember. at Kenwood Tire we're here to get you back on the road with a minimum of fuss -- It's always best to make an appointment.
